The California Highway Patrol is still looking into the incident.
Independent Investigation

The truck had paused due to construction reasons in both the west and eastbound lanes. The witness suspects that during this pause, the trunk driver fell asleep and, after the construction had cleared, was asleep at the time of the collision.
